2G Builder & Framework, Web-Based Service-Oriented Architectures

2G is the name of Gesinf’s new platform for the development of Enterprise-level applications, expressly designed to gradually replace the current TEAM solutions. Thanks to the GBuilder Suite production environment, developed and used by Gesinf, it is possible to create applications operating within the Framework 2G, namely the set of classes that ensure their execution, both on the server and on the client side, according to technical and conceptual principles aligned with the most advanced information technologies; from a technical perspective, this architecture is defined as SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture) and RIA (Rich Internet Applications based on Web 2.0 interfaces).

An important feature of the new applications based on 2G is that, while introducing the most innovative solutions currently available on the IT market, they can coexist with existing software within the same system. This means that current applications can continue to be used together with the modules developed with 2G, which will be progressively implemented over time.

The Web Embraces Service-Oriented Architectures

The advantages offered by the use of the web for application software are well known, while the disadvantages faced by users of software designed with traditional web systems over recent years are less widely recognized. In particular, the techniques generally used, now referred to as Web 1.0, have proven to be highly effective for portal-oriented applications, such as home banking or e-commerce, but much less effective for management and operational applications, where the amount of information handled by users requires significant interaction with the system, the use of overlapping windows, and more generally a data organization that is difficult to adapt to a sequence of individual web pages.

Another limitation, less apparent to users but which has slowed the development of complex web-based applications, is the higher software production cost resulting from a less efficient architecture and from compatibility issues with different web browsers, one of the most critical aspects in the maintenance of current internet applications.

To solve these problems and provide a more interactive, direct and richer user interface, the concept of Web 2.0 and Rich Internet Application was developed. This technology makes it possible to achieve a user experience on the web that is fully comparable to desktop applications, namely the programs users are accustomed to using on their own PCs, with an extremely high level of interactivity. It is so flexible and functional that it enables the use of the web for graphical and interactive applications.

Gesinf, aware of the importance of the user interface in its management systems, has embraced the challenge of Web 2.0 and has developed a platform entirely based on RIA technologies, going beyond the traditional concepts of web applications by exploiting the best features of the web without sacrificing maximum usability and performance.

The system is based on a modeling tool specifically developed by Gesinf, called GBuilder Suite, and on the classes that ensure the operation of applications modeled with it within a standard infrastructure that provides a powerful user interface and all the administration tools required for maximum system interactivity and configurability. The GBuilder production suite can be used by any software house or development team to create 2G applications and represents the ideal tool for addressing the current SOA/RIA platform market, both in terms of the evolution of existing applications, with particular reference to those developed with Embarcadero Delphi but not exclusively, and in terms of new design and development projects.
